- Providing legal services to the mayor and commission, manager, constitutional officers, and all government departments and divisions
- Prosecuting and defending lawsuits (excluding those covered by liability insurance)
- Researching and drafting ordinances and resolutions for adoption
- Drafting or reviewing all government contracts and deeds
- Prosecuting violations of the Athens-Clarke County Code of Ordinances
- Attending meetings of the mayor and commission, Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Hearings Board, Board of Tax Assessors, and Board of Equalization
- Communicating with federal and state agencies to ensure compliance with laws and regulations
- Reviewing and modifying government acts to comply with applicable laws
- Handling unlawful discrimination ordinance matters and related complaints
- Managing opioid litigation and related legal actions
