Student Legal Services is a dedicated legal assistance office providing free, confidential legal advice and representation exclusively to Indiana University Bloomington students. Established in 1971 and funded through the Student Activity Fee, this office stands out by offering professional legal support at no extra cost, ensuring students can navigate legal challenges without financial stress.
The office employs four full-time Indiana-licensed attorneys and over two dozen law student interns from the IU Maurer School of Law, all working under strict attorney supervision. Their approach prioritizes student confidentiality, academic success, and accessible guidance for a wide range of civil legal matters, allowing students to stay focused on their studies while having a reliable legal safety net.
